Meeting 4/12/11 @ Pilllsbury House and Paradise Garden

Reunión 4/12/11 fue en Pilllsbury House y Jardín Paraíso.

1. PLANTS
We went through Starr’s seed catalog and choose the vegetables and herbs we want to grow. Thank you for bringing the catalog, Starr!

2. GARDEN DESIGN
We discussed how to arrange the plants. We talked about: crop rotation, using our 6 additional rain barrels, and putting plants that benefit each other together. Rita offered to draw up a proposed design based on all our ideas. Thank you, Rita!

Discutimos acerca de cómo acomodar las plantas. Hablamos de: la rotación de los cultivos, usando nuestros 6 adicionales barriles de lluvia, y poner las plantas juntas que se benefician una con la otra. 3. SCHEDULE

The group discussed which days we want to meet for gardening. For those present, the best days are Tuesday at 5, and Saturday (I’m not sure what time).

El grupo discutió acerca de cual días nosotros queremos reunirnos para trabajar en el jardín. Para los que estuvieron presente, los mejores días son los martes a las 5 y sábados (no estoy segura qué hora).

4. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Door-knocking. Cristhian and Kathleen door-knocked the 3400 block of Elliot to invite neighbors to the garden. If you want to help invite the 3400 block of Columbus, meet Jim and Starlon on Monday 4/18 at 5 pm at South City.

Tocamos en las Puerta. Cristhian y Kathleen tocaron en las puerta de las casas el la cuadra de 3400 de Elliot y invitaron a los vecinos a venir al jardín. Si alguien quiere ayudar a invitar a la cuadra de 3400 de Columbus, reunirse con Jim y Starlon el lunes 04/18 a las 5 pm en la cafetería de South City.

Compost. Rob layered the compost, Fudi and Saran provided water for it. Penny, Mike, and Kathleen have joined the compost-turning team coordinated by Rob. Penny facilitated our application for compost from the city. Mike said Pillsbury House will pay for the delivery. Patrick will pick up nutrient-rich “sludge” from the Seward Coop juice bar weekly for the compost. Kathleen picked up several crates of old veggies from New York Plaza Produce for the compost. Thanks everyone.

El Abono. Rob puso el abono en capas, Fudi y Saran proporcionaron el agua para él. Penny, Mike, y Kathleen se han unido al equipo de darle vueltas a abono que esta coordinado por Rob. Penny facilito nuestra solicitud de abono de la ciudad. Mike dijo que Pillsbury House pagará por el despacho. Plant and seed swap. PPNA is looking for volunteers for a plant and seed swap on May 21, Sat, 10 am – 2 pm. If you are interested, call Mary Jo, 387-9716.

The Hub. (new Local Foods Resource Hub) is looking for volunteers to help with the seed & plant distribution at Powderhorn Park on 4/30/11 and 5/21/11. Help your Hub, it’s helping you! Contact Kathleen if you’re interested.

5. NEXT MEETING

Tuesday April 19, 5 – 7 pm, in the garden! Topics: Rita's proposal, rototilling?, gardener agreements, garden roles needed. Silvia and I know that everyone is eager to get busy working in the soil. To be successful, we know we must create a system to keep the garden group functioning until October! Thanks for bringing your ideas and energy to this process!

5. PROXIMA REUNION

Martes 19 de abril de 5-7 pm, en el jardín! Temas: la propuesta de Rita, rototilling?, acuerdos entre jardineros, papeles necesarios. Silvia y yo sabemos que todos están impaciente para trabajar en el suelo. ¡Para tener exito, sabemos que debemos crear un sistema para mantener el grupo de jardín funcionando toda hasta Octubre! ¡Gracias por traer sus ideas y energía a este proceso!

1. DECISION MAKING PROCESS
Finished discussing how our group wants to make decisions.  The following was passed with one "stand aside".

• Adults and Children have equal voting power.
• Decisions are made by those who are present-- if someone is unable to be present and wished to share information they can send a representative or call Silvia or Kathleen before the meeting.
• Before voting we will hear from each person.
• Individuals may vote in three ways "for"(thumbs up), "against"(thumbs down), or "stand aside"(thumb to the side).  A "stand aside" vote indicates neutrality.  If one third of those present "stand aside" the group will discuss their reasons for standing aside and can chose to revote.

1. PROCESO DE HACER DECISIONES
Terminamos discutiendo como va a hacer decisiones nuestro grupo.  Lo siguiente era aprobado con una persona apartiendose.

• Adultos y ninos tienen poder igual con su vota
• Se hace decisiones con las personas presentes-- si alguien no puede estar presente y desea compartir informacion o opinion, se puede mandar un representante o comunicar con Silvia o Kathleen antes de la reunion.
• Antes que votamos, cada persona sera escuchado.
• Individuos puede votar "Por" (dedo arriba), "contra" (dedo abajo), o "neutral" (dedo al lado).  Si un tercer de las personas voten "neutral" discutimos el tema mas y se puede decidir votar de nuevo.

2. LOCAL FOOD RESOURCE HUB
A group in South Minneapolis (along with similar groups in North Minneapolis and Phillips Neighborhood) are organizing around all aspects of gardening.  To become a member we pay $30 a year, and recieve 60 packs of seeds, 84 seedlings and support and access to resources.

• The group discussed and voted, deciding we want to become a member and use funds from our plant sale and rain barrel sale that fall.  Laura Byard volunteered to pick up and care for the seedlings Saturday April 30th.

 2. CENTRO DE RECURSOS PARA LA COMIDA LOCAL
Un grupo del Sur de Minneapolis (con grupos similares en el parte norte de Minneapolis, y en el barrio Phillips) organizan sobre cada aspecto de hacer un jardin. Para ser miembro podemos pagar $30 cada anyo, y recibimos 60 paquetes de semillas, 84 plantitas, y apoyo y accesso a otros recursos.

• El grupo discutio y voto, dicidiendo que queremos ser miembro y usar los fondos de la venta de vegetales y barriles de agua el otono pasado.  Laura Byard ofrecio obtener y cuidar las plantas Sabado el 30 de Abril.

3. RISEN CHRIST VOLUNTEER DAY
Risen Christ, a near-by Middle School typically offers their 7th and 8th grade volunteers to Youth Farm.  YF doesn't need them this year and so offered to volunteer with Paradise instead. 

• The group discussed and voted, deciding yes! we'd be able to use their help.  Kathleen, Laura Byard and maybe John will be able to attend to help delegate and organize tasks. Thank You!!

3. RISEN CHRIST DIA de VOLUNTAR
Risen Christ, una escuela en el barrio, usualmente da su ayuda a Youth Farm cada anyo.  Este anyo YF no necesita su syuda y se ofrecio los servicios a Paraiso.

• El grupo discutio y voto, dicidiendo que si queremos su ayuda.  Kathleen, Laura Byard y quizas John se pueden estar presente para oficionar y organizar el trabajo.  Gracias!!

4. Cristian and Kathleen are going to canvas more of the neighborhood to invite neighbors to join in the garden.  if you want to help they are meeting at 9am, Tuesday the 9th at South City Cafe.
