Jardín Paraíso

When you pass by the garden, you will notice that much of it has been lovingly “put to bed” for the season. This is thanks to 3 year old Gabrielle, his mom Haley, 1 ½ year old Olivia, her mom Awan, John X, Kathleen, and the folks at St. Vincent de Paul thrift store.

Cuando ustedes pasen por el jardín se daran cuenta que la mayor parte de el a sido cuidadosamente cubierto para de final de la temporada. Esto es gracias a Gabrielle, que tiene 3 años de edad; su mama Haley; Olivia que es 1 1/2 años de edad; su mama Awan; John X; Kathleen; y la personas de la tienda de segunda mano San Vicente de Pablo.

Gabrielle saw the Halloween cupcakes Kathleen picked up at the St V de Paul, and his eyes widened.  Once he realized they were for gardeners, he wanted to be a gardener! He picked whole “families” of carrots, while his mom cleared out tomato plants. We saw Olivia gazing out the window next door. Before long Awan came over with Olivia saying this was the first time she’d clearly indicated a desire to come to the garden. Awan couldn’t resist!  John continued the brickwork along the paths, which looks great and will help this Spring to distinguish the planting beds from the paths. Kathleen “munched” some leaves with a lawn mower and worked with Haley and Awan to remove plants and add leaves.

Gabrielle vio los pastelillos de halloween que Kathleen compró en la tienda de San Vicente de Pablo, y sus ojos se abrieron muy anchos. Cuando el realizó que eran para los jardineros, el queria ser un jardinero también! El arrancó una “familia” de zanahorias, mientras su mama limpió las plantas de tomate. Nosotros vimos a Olivia mirando por la ventana del al lado. En un poco de tiempo Awan llegó con Olivia diciendo que esta era la primera vez que ella claramente había indicado el deseo de venir al jardín. Awan no pudo resistir! John continuó el trabajo con los ladrillos a lo largo de las sendas, cual se ven muy bien. Esto ayudara a distinguir los plateros de siembra en la primavera. Kathleen molió unas hojas con la cortadora de césped y trabajó con Haley y Awan a remover plantas y hojas.

Our beloved garden co-coordinator Silvia Perez has won an award! We were just chatting on Saturday about what a dynamo Silvia is, and then we got this news! She was nominated by Amy Arcand, her supervisor at Corcoran Neighborhood Association. To quote Amy: 

Nuestro querida coordinadora del jardín Silvia Perez ganó un premio! Nosotros estábamos charlando el Sábado acerca que dinamo Silvia es, y luego nosotros recibimos esta noticia. Ella fue nominada por Amy Arcand, su supervisor de la Asociación de Concoran. Para citar Amy:

“I nominated Silvia for the MN Woman's Press Change Makers award and she was selected to appear in the December issue. She was interviewed this week and was very proud of her work. She deserves the recognition and I am so glad that they selected her! We'll have to make sure that we get a bunch of copies and get the word out! Would you be able to spread the word in Powderhorn once the article comes out? We will be putting something in our paper and spreading the word through our networks and the board.”

"Yo nomine Silvia en la Prensa de Mujeres de MN para el premio de el Mercado de Cambio, y ella fue seleccionada para aparecer en la edición de diciembre. Esta semana ella fue entrevistada y estaba muy orgullosa de su trabajo. Ella merece el reconocimiento, y estoy muy contenta que la eligieron a ella. Tendremos que asegurarnos de obtener muchas copias y dejarle saber a otros. Ustedes podrían dejar saber a los demás en el vecindario de Powderhorn una vez que el articulo salga? Nosotros pondremos algo en nuestro papel y dejarle saber a otros por medio de nuestra redes y juntas."

I want to pass on some more great compliments we’ve received lately. Laura K, who helped set up for the harvest party said, “I have never been around so many well-behaved children before.” Paradise Garden children, you’re the best!

Quiero pasar mas grandes elogios que hemos recibido últimamente. Laura K, quien ayudó a preparar para la fiesta de cosecha dijo “Yo nunca he estado alrededor de tantos niños que se portan tan bien.” Los niños del Jardín Paraíso son de lo mejor!

Shari A. commented, “I just want to say that, although I only participated that one day at the beginning of the garden, I enjoy receiving your updates and seeing the success of your vision and hard work. Congratulations!”

Shari A. comentó, “ Solo quiero decir que aunque yo solo participe un día al cominenzo del jardín, yo gozo recibir sus noticias y ver el éxito de su visión y su trabajo arduo. Felicitaciones!

Garlic

Should we plant garlic? If yes, let us know, and join in, or lead the garlic planting! It’s easy and fun!

 Que dicen si sembramos ajo? Si es si, deje nos saber, y reunace con nosotros, o guille la siembra de ajo. Es fácil y divertido!

Bench

Banco

Should we accept Morgan’s offer to give us a bench, that needs a slat repaired? We need a volunteer or 2 who can assess if it’s repairable, repair it, and secure it in the garden. Morgan, thanks for your patience while we decide and recruit a qualified volunteer.

Debemos aceptar el ofrecimiento de Morgan de darnos un banco que necesita ser reparado? Necesitamos un voluntario o dos que puedan determinar si el banco es reparable o si puede repararlo, y si es seguro en el jardín. It is challenging to continue group communication now that the season is winding down and we aren’t all together at the garden regularly. So please, use your email to "reply all", share your input, and volunteer to do stuff. "I'll lead garlic planting on Sunday at ___, all I need is the garlic" for example. And then I (Kathleen) will get you the garlic. :-)  We don’t want to make decisions without you, and a lot can be accomplished with a group effort.

Es mas difícil continuar con la comunicación del grupo ahora que la temporada esta por terminar, y no estamos en el jardín con regularidad. Así que por favor use su correo electrónico, o teléfono y comparta su opinión."Yo voy a estar escargado de plantar ajo el domingo a las___, y necesito el ajo" por ejemplo. Y yo (Kathleen) te traigo el ajo. :-)  No queremos tomar decisiones sin ustedes, y podemos llevarse acabo mucho con el esfuerzo del grupo.

Next garden day

 El próximo día en el jardin

Someone (volunteers?) may be hosting a next garden work day this weekend. Tasks for the day include finishing “putting the garden to bed” by removing dead plants, and adding a layer of leaf mulch. If folks want garlic, it can be planted. If folks want raspberries, they can continue work on the new raspberry bed along the parking lot. Stubborn small mulberry trees need to be removed there – a job for the tenacious and the strong! Continued brickwork with John can also be done.

Alguien (voluntarios?) sera la encargada del próximo día de trabajo en el jardín este fin de semana. Tareas para el día incluye “ terminar la temporada en el jardín” remover las plantas muertas, agregar una capa de hojas molidas. Si gente quiere ajo puede ser sembrado. Si gente quiere frambuesas, ellos pueden seguir con el trabajo en el nuebo plantador a lo largo de parqueo. Las plantas necias de morera necesitan ser removidas de allí-- un trabajo para el tenaz y el fuerte.
